Alaska Vets Motorcycle Club

"The Mighty 49th"

About Us

The Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club established its first Alaska-based Chapter in Fairbanks during late  1987. Over the years since then the Club expanded its operation into numerous communities encompassing the Mighty 49th State. Our mission was clear; our voice would be dedicated to supporting causes of military veterans and active duty personnel, with a special emphasis on awareness of Prisoners Of War and Missing In Action (POW-MIA) issues.

Our Red & Black patches have become well known as the "Vets" to many within the motorcycle and veteran communities. Our yearly Memorial Day Run is celebrated by hundreds on motorcycles and hundreds more in attendance at Byers Lake. As time passed and membership aged, it became apparent; the Vietnam Vets MC would someday fade away. If our mission was to continue and not be lost to history we had to restructure  our club. We embraced the concept of expanding our membership to a younger generation of veterans to carry the torch. In 2002 the Club began in earnest an evolutionary transformation. This work culminated October 22, 2011, with the transition of our Club to Alaska Vets Motorcycle Club (AVMC) and retiring forever the old Vietnam Vets MC of Alaska.

Today, the "Vets" continue our M/C traditions and community mission throughout the Mighty 49th. The AVMC remains a warrior brotherhood drawing prospective members from all eras and branches of service. Our patches continue to reflect we are Red & Black to the core. Red is for the blood that was shed in our Nations wars; Black is for mourning the loss of those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Our center patch design is that of a Phoenix. It has its roots in many cultures around the world to include Native American. Besides common features of power and freedom, the Phoenix symbolizes rebirth, immortality, and renewal. These attributes all speak to our Clubs progression. Our center patch is uniquely Alaskan in tribal design and incorporates the colors of all five branches of service.

The Alaska Vets Motorcycle Club is an independent M/C. We are not affiliated with any national clubs, veteran or otherwise, and want to stay that way. AVMC is a member of the Alaska Coalition of Clubs (COC) and is the only legitimately recognized Red & Black club in Alaska.

The Alaska Vets Motorcycle Club is one club with two charters; Far North & South Central.
